Membership Meeting 6-11-13
Updated On: Jun 12, 2013
Monthly Membership Meeting 6-11-13

President Carney was present for this month’s membership meeting after being out of town with the international CWA last month. He covered many topics this month and as usual, a number of motions were voted upon by the membership in attendance.

Leslie Branham from AP-1 has been named chair of the new entertainment committee for Local 83761. The committee will be made up of representatives from first and second shifts in buildings 1, 3, 5, & 10. One of the committee’s main goals will be to plan and organize fun events to help unite the membership such as softball, cookouts, day at the Bats games, etc. Be on the lookout for more information in the coming months.

The first round of steward training took place the first week of this month. All 65 stewards who took part in the training feel that it was an educational experience that will help them better perform their duties. This is the first time in a long time training like this has been performed at the hall and it will go a long way in helping our stewards more effectively represent you. The stewards are also completing online courses and a more extensive training will take place within the next couple of months.

Something in the grass roots stages is the formation of a “junior executive board”. The board will be made up of younger (seniority wise) members who have an interest in learning more of the ins and outs of how the business of the union works. Again, this is in the grass roots stages and all the details are still in the works.

Members voted to approve the donation of $1000 towards the Labor Day picnic at The Louisville Zoo. The Labor Day at the Zoo is a great event for our members and members of locals from around the city to get out with the family, have a great time, and a free meal with other hard working Louisville families. Tickets for the Zoo will be available soon and are $7 in advance and $9 at the gate. Tickets can be pre purchased through our hall by contacting Lisa Bennett. Her e-mail address is LisaRBennett@gmail.com. A flyer with more information is attached below.

Volunteers are needed to work the GE/IUE-CWA Local 83761 booth at the Kentucky State Fair again this year. This is our booth where we give away freebies, sign folks up for a free appliance that is given away daily, and educate them on the great products we make right here in Louisville Kentucky. This is completely on a volunteer basis. Volunteers work four hour shifts and are given a t-shirt and free admission to the fair. Sign-up sheets will go around on Independence Day week. By signing up you are obligated to work. If you are not present for your shift you will be barred from volunteering in the future.

The door prize winners this month were Joe Fisher of AP-3 and Dennis Peach, Union Safety Representative. Dennis donated his to the children’s Christmas party fund.
